The Cave

The Cave is a boutique mixing and mastering suite.

Situated in Exarchia, one of Athens' most notorious areas, the house dates back to 1921. It is built entirely out of stones and tacked inside the foot of the Strefi hill, hence "The Cave". This unique architecture gives it its distinct aesthetic and sonic characteristic. The room is acoustically treated by acou.gr, with a flat frequency response and has a balanced sound with a touch of "liveness" due to the stone walls. The recording booth has movable panels that help dampen or liven the sound if needed.

Being a boutique studio means there is a preference on high quality gear without the need to accumulate many pieces. The analogue part of the studio has an emphasis on valve and vintage sounding gear (Tubetech CL2A, Manley Vari Mu, Chandler EMI EQ), while the digital part on precision and advanced functionality (Soothe, Fab Filter, Ozone RX). When it comes to mixing the TOFT ATB16 acts as a summing mixer, with additional EQs and a sweet sound with lots of headroom, while the Apogee Symphony converters ensure that every bit of that sound will be captured in high resolution.

The studio is completely modular so that all gear can be used both in mixing and mastering.

Ekelon

Ekelon has a degree in Audio Technology and has been working as a sound engineer since the early 2000s.

His diverse musical taste and professional curiosity has taken him down many different paths, but being a child of the 90's electronic music revolution his heart remains firmly in all things electronic. Be it EDM or Leftfield Pop his familiarity and experience with the styles and norms of contemporary music ensures that his sound will always be of the highest quality.

Throughout the years however he has worked with some of greece's premier pop and rock artist, which broadened his sonic horizons but also gave him a reputation for mixing past and future techniques in a balanced and harmonious way.

In 2017 he launched The Cave, a mixing and mastering suite tailor made to his preferred sound and work methodology. The Cave's hybrid setup allows him to look at the old analogue ways for inspiration and guidance but gives him the tools for creating new techniques and sounds.
